Ghulam Murtaza Niazi received his musical training from Ustad Mohammad Umer Baloch who ran a flourishing music club (later converted to an academy) in Trans-Lyari, Karachi, since Partition. 

After initial training, Ghulam Murtaza Niazi entered a hiatus from music due to his work in Pakistan Air Force, taking early retirement and resuming training after 7 years. In 1995, when his teachers fell ill, Ghulam Murtaza Niazi was given the responsibility to run the Academy which he does to this to this day.

Ghulam Murtaza Niazi includes both classical and semi-classical collection in his repertoire like like khayal, thumri, ghazal, geet, Sindhi kaafi, Siraiki kaafi, bhajans etc. and has performed at prestigious platforms all over Pakistan. He is also a poet and composer.

He will be accompanied by Gul Muhammad on Sarangi, Anil Ghawri on tabla and Daniel Wilayat on Harmonium in his performance.
